Backing local small businesses
Published Monday 4 December 2017A high profile visit to Lutterworth town centre took place at the weekend to coincide with Small Business Saturday; a national initiative promoting small independent businesses.
Alberto Costa MP visited a number of small businesses in Lutterworth on Saturday morning alongside the Leader of Harborough District Council, Cllr Neil Bannister, Lutterworth Councillor, Rosita Page, the Chair of the Regional Federation of Small Businesses, Mr Les Phillimore, and a representative from the Lutterworth Retail Forum, Mrs Sharee Jones.
Mr Costa said: "It was a real pleasure to visit Lutterworth town centre as part of the excellent Small Business Saturday initiative. We’re blessed locally, that Lutterworth has a brilliant, diverse range of small independent businesses and I am very proud to support this initiative which hopes to highlight these businesses and raise awareness of the great local shops that are on our doorsteps."
Leader of Harborough District Council, Cllr Neil Bannister, added: “I am delighted to support Small Business Saturday with our local MP, Alberto Costa. It’s been excellent to meet with local businesspeople in Lutterworth and to discuss how the District Council can do more to support the town. I am hoping for further positive engagement with the Lutterworth Retail Forum and other business owners which will enhance the shopping experience for the town."
FSB Regional Chair for Leicestershire, Rutland & Northamptonshire, Mr Les Phillimore, also said: "The FSB are always very pleased to support Small Business Saturday, and visiting Lutterworth today; it was great to see such a thriving market town with such a diverse range of traders and retailers."
Mr Costa concluded: “Small businesses are the backbone of our nation’s economy, and it was great to meet local business owners and to discuss their concerns and their views on how local businesses can continue to flourish in South Leicestershire. I am very grateful also to the Leader of Harborough District Council for joining me today, and of course to the District Council themselves for offering free car parking for Small Business as a further encouragement for constituents to visit the town’s shops.”
