Decisions made at Executive meeting – 12 June 2017
Published Thursday 15 June 2017The outcomes of items considered at Harborough District Council’s Executive meeting on Monday 12 June 2017 are as follows:
- Three neighbourhood plan referendums are set to be held on the same day next month. Councillors accepted independent examiners’ recommended changes to the North Kilworth Neighbourhood Plan and the Hungarton Neighbourhood Plan and agreed that both should proceed to a referendum of voters to be held in the respective villages on 20 July 2017. Neighbourhood planning is a way for communities to help decide the future of the places where they live and work. Communities can use a Neighbourhood Plan to choose where they want new homes, shops and offices to be built, have their say on what those new buildings should look like, and grant planning permission for the new buildings they want to see go ahead. The Lubenham Neighbourhood Plan, which councillors agreed could progress to referendum last month, will hold a referendum of voters in the village – also on 20 July 2017.
- Councillors agreed that responsibility for The Square in Market Harborough should be transferred to Harborough District Council from Leicestershire County Council. Councillors approved the transfer of the land from Public Highway land to Public Open Space. The move would give the district council full control of The Square and make it easier to stage events and markets. At present, many events on The Square require a Temporary Traffic Regulation Order because the land is classed as Highways. However, the transfer would minimise this need. Councillors said they hoped it would help improve the local economy, increase visitors and potentially enable more events to be held.
- Councillors approved the Air Quality Annual Status Report which sets out any air quality monitoring results carried out in the Harborough district along with any actions done to improve air quality.
