Retro poster for classic car show unveiled
Published Wednesday 14 June 2017People are being transported back to a golden age with the unveiling of a vintage style poster to promote the eagerly-awaited classic car show in Market Harborough.
Harborough District Council has unveiled the promotional poster – designed in an art deco style – for the classic car show being staged as part of the Harborough by the Sea event in July.
The new poster (pictured) has been created by local artist Jon Holder who also created the design for the Harborough by the Sea postcard two years ago. And special limited-edition collectors’ postcards, featuring the design, are being produced to promote the event.
Vintage will be the theme for the 2017 Harborough by the Sea event – taking place in Market Harborough from Friday 28 to Monday 31 July 2017.
As well as the giant sandpits and deckchairs, the clocks will be turning back to the 50s and 60s – with live bands on The Square playing classic rock ‘n’ roll and sixties hits, along with a host of other activities and entertainment.
And keeping with the theme, for the first time Harborough by the Sea will also host a classic car show in the town on the Sunday (30 July) – with retro vehicles displayed on the streets, all vying for the best in show award. Anyone with a classic car is invited to display their prized vehicle as part of the show. It is free to exhibit vehicles but these must be registered on the Harborough by the Sea website before 14 July. The only stipulation is that the vehicle – whether car, motorbike, scooter, van or other classic vehicle – ideally pre-dates 1990.
Cllr James Hallam, Harborough District Council’s portfolio holder responsible for corporate services and economic development said: “Harborough by the Sea is always a fantastic event for all the family – and this year the classic car show on the Sunday will be an added attraction. If you own a classic vehicle I hope you’ll display it in the town – but if you don’t I hope you’ll come along anyway and enjoy what promises to be a memorable occasion.”
Supermarket Tesco will sponsoring the Best In Show award for the Classic Car Show, as well as giving away free ice lollies and fruit during the event. Jeakins Weir will deliver and assemble the sandpits.
There are also some opportunities available for traders to apply to run food and retail pitches during the event.
