Extra garden waste pick-up for subscribers
Published Thursday 15 December 2016Residents in the Harborough district who have already subscribed to the council’s garden waste collection service will receive an extra green bin collection in January.
Harborough District Council has agreed that green bins will be collected between 10 January and 20 January 2017 on the normal recycling collection day (when the blue-lidded recycling bin is collected). Some residents may have a different collection schedule, and will have been advised of this when the service commenced.
Residents who have already signed up to the council’s garden waste collection service can fill their green bin with garden waste – including their real Christmas tree if they have one – and it will be collected. Real Christmas trees must be placed fully in the green bin with the lid closed.
Cllr Neil Bannister, the council's portfolio holder for environmental services, said: “I am pleased, in the name of festive cheer, we are able to offer this extra garden waste collection which I am sure will be welcomed by everyone who has subscribed to the service.”
Bins should be presented before 7am, as normal, on the day of collection, and will only be collected from households which are already on the garden waste service subscription list.
Residents who have not signed up to the scheme can contact the charity LOROS which will recycle Christmas trees, for a minimum £5 donation, but only in the Market Harborough area. Book a LOROS collection online.
Harborough district residents will be able to subscribe to next year’s garden waste collections from 3 January 2017.
Harborough District Council’s Executive agreed the extra one-off green bin collection for all subscribers to the garden waste service at a meeting on 5 December 2016.
