Celebrations at market after a trio of awards
Published Tuesday 26 April 2016Market Harborough’s town market has scooped yet another accolade completing a hat-trick of award wins in recent months.
Harborough Market, owned by Harborough District Council and managed by Market Place, has just been named Leicestershire ‘Retail Business Of The Year ‘at the recent Leicester Mercury Business Awards.
This latest accolade follows other high-profile award wins namely the Niche Business Award for ‘Best Independent Retailer’, and ‘Britain's Best Small Indoor Market 2016’ by the National Association of British Market Authorities.
The Market management team said local people, and those who regularly travel to visit the market, have played a huge part in this latest success.
The Leicester Mercury Business Awards – which saw 350 entrants over 13 categories – celebrate success, achievement and highlight the innovative people and businesses in Leicestershire who are putting the region on the map and boosting the economy.
The awards ceremony was held at The Platinum Suite, in Leicester on April 21, attended by hundreds of Leicestershire’s business elite.
Nick Rhodes, Chief Executive of Market Place, said: "Market Place is delighted that Harborough Market was awarded Retail Business Of The Year. It is a tremendous achievement to win such a prestigious award and great testament to the vision and collective partnership developed between Harborough District Council, the market traders and Market Place."
Beverley Jolly, Corporate Director at Harborough District Council, said: “This latest award recognises the continued success of the market since the investment the Council made in its redevelopment a few years ago. Further investment is also planned going forward. Credit goes to all those involved in the market, its traders and the many people who regularly do their shopping here.”
Kris Moore, owner of John Ross Butchers based at the market, said: "The market has come a long way in the last two years through the hard work of Market Place, Harborough District Council and the traders. The public should also share in this award, after all, it is their support that makes these awards possible and keeps our town market alive and thriving."
