Sandpits event proves more popular than ever
Published Wednesday 12 August 2015The popular Harborough by the Sea event in Market Harborough has been hailed a huge success – attracting a record number of visitors compared to previous years.
The event, which sees a giant sandpit arrive on The Square in the town as well as a host of other family activities, ran for six days and, for the first time, included a special launch evening.
Sponsors of the event, and those who performed over the six days, have been thanked by the organisers, Harborough District Council, for helping make the event possible and such a success.
Cllr Blake Pain, leader of Harborough District Council said: “This year’s event was bigger and better than ever, and the feedback we’ve had about it has been fantastic. We were very lucky to be blessed with good weather which always adds to the seaside atmosphere. A lot of the families who attended said they’d made a special trip into the town specifically for Harborough by the Sea which shows why it is one of the most important tourist events in the social calendar.”
The event aims to bring the whole community together and provides fun activities for all ages, including those with disabilities, taking place in The Square, Memorial Gardens and in Welland Park.
Cllr Pain added: “A number of local shops and businesses have already reported an increase in turnover during the event which is fantastic news for the local economy. I’d like to personally thank everyone who made the event such as success – especially its sponsors and those involved in organising such a memorable occasion.”
Businesses will be invited to complete a questionnaire, available soon, to provide feedback about the event.
