At their meeting of 28 July 2015, the Planning Committee of Harborough District Council resolved to approve an outline planning application for up to 178 dwellings on land east of Beeby Road, Scraptoft (application 14/01637/OUT), subject to completion of Section 106 agreement.
The council has today (29 July 2015) received notification from the National Planning Casework Unit of the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) that the Secretary of State has received a request to consider the call in of the application against the Government’s call in policy.
The council awaits the Secretary of State’s decision whether to call in this planning application.
Until the Secretary of State informs the council of his decision, the council has been asked to withhold issuing the Decision Notice on this planning application.
Councillor Phil King, Harborough District Council’s deputy leader and portfolio holder responsible for planning and regeneration, said: “Naturally I am disappointed that the decision of the council’s democratically elected planning committee has been referred to the Secretary of State. Officer's advice to members was clear and unambiguous. The recommendation for approval was agreed by a very clear majority at the meeting.
“The council will await the Secretary of State’s decision with interest. We have agreed to withhold the issuing of the Decision Notice pending the Secretary of State’s decision on this matter.”
