Views are being sought on open spaces

New ‘greenways’, to enhance existing walking and cycling routes, are among ideas being considered as part of an open spaces consultation.

Harborough District Council is inviting public comments on parks, play areas, open land, and allotments as it looks to create an ‘open spaces vision’ for the district.

The consultation will help the council work with partner organisations and the community to protect open spaces, and create much-needed new community spaces.

Feedback is also welcome on proposals for so-called ‘greenways’ – similar to Brampton Valley Way – which could connect places for commuting or leisure. Another consideration is whether town squares should be included in an open spaces strategy and how these sites could be improved for public use.

Cllr Phil King, portfolio holder for planning, finance, assets and development, said: "This is a genuine opportunity for residents and groups to help shape and influence the future of open spaces across the Harborough District."
