Pair brought to court over wooden pallets
Published Monday 13 January 2014A couple who were illegally using a house and garden for storing and distributing wooden pallets for business have been stopped from doing so.
Richard John Lewis and Lisa Kay Foster of Somerby Road , Thurnby, were served with an injuction by Harborough District Council after ignoring an enforcement notice, issued on January 2012, asking them to stop using the property for business storage and to remove the pallets.
The council had received a number of complaints from residents regarding the property and the use of the land.
After refusing to comply, the pair were taken to court, and on 8th January 2014 at Birmingham Civil Courts of Justice, Mr Lewis, who was also representing Foster in court, was ordered to sign a consent order before the Judge.
This instructs the pair to remove all equipment at the property and prevents the unauthorised use of the site for storage and distribution of wooden pallets.
The pair were also ordered to pay court costs.
Councillor Phil King, Harborough District Council’s planning portfolio holder, said: “This case sends out a strong message that the failure to comply with enforcement notices will be taken seriously and, if necessary, dealt with via the courts.”
