Council provides assurances over valued sports hall
Published Wednesday 16 April 2025Harborough District Council is reassuring residents and clubs over the future of the Harborough Leisure Centre sports hall, after rumours have circulated around possible future uses.
Concerns have been raised by residents and sports clubs that the hall may be ‘lost’, and the council has confirmed that no decision has been made by the council and no consultation on the matter has even taken place.
The centre in Market Harborough reopened in November 2025 following a multi-million-pound investment into a complete refurbishment and new facilities, including the construction of a brand new purpose built racquet sports arena, fitness studios, much improved swimming pool, and a whole host of other fitness features. The refurbishment has been hailed a huge success by users and clubs, who value having a modern and accessible facility in the town.
Cat Hartley, Director of Communities and Wellbeing commented: “We have been made aware that rumours have been circulating over the future of the sports hall, and in particular about it being lost in the future. We would like to reassure all users of the leisure centre that absolutely no decisions have been made by councillors about any alternative uses, and that the council recognises how valuable the facilities are to the community.
“We are aware of the worries being created and have made it clear that meetings will be held to look at the matters in detail. The councillors will be meeting with both users and the management company after which a full report will be taken to cabinet for consideration. ”
