Full steam ahead with essential upgrades to railway station

Market Harborough Railway Station, the main gateway to the town centre, is undergoing a significant programme of improvements.

Work has started on enhancements to the train station, which will see a newly landscaped garden area, welcoming arch, wayfinding signage and additional seating.

This project is set to improve accessibility and navigation at this busy station which is a vital transport hub for residents and businesses.

Cllr Phil Knowles, Leader of Harborough District Council, said: “This initiative provides necessary improvements for Market Harborough town centre, and I am delighted that it’s moving forward. It’s important that the council continues to provide and maintain fit for purpose infrastructure that is for the benefit of our residents and visitors.”

Harborough District Council has awarded £73,200 from its UK Shared Prosperity Funding to East Midlands Railway to deliver the work which is expected to be completed by 31 March 2025.

The UK Shared Prosperity Fund is a central pillar of the UK government’s Levelling Up agenda and provides £2.6 billion of funding for local investment by March 2025. The Fund aims to improve pride in place and increase life chances across the UK investing in communities and place, supporting local business, and people and skills.
