Residents are being advised to sign up to flood alerts and be aware of any risks of flooding

With the wet weather set to continue until Monday evening, Harborough District Council has reassured residents that it is working closely with local agencies to prevent and support with flooding incidents.

Cllr Knowles, Leader of Harborough District Council, said: “The wet weather is causing concern for some residents and businesses and there has been some damage caused already. Harborough District Council is not generally responsible for clearing road drains but will be contacting the county council with questions on issues including what plans are in place for maintaining and cleaning drains and pipework on a regular basis.

"Our teams continue to be ready to respond to the situation where appropriate and are working with the appropriate agencies to support our communities."

People are reminded not to drive through flood water and keep an eye on weather and flood warnings for their local area. Residents are also encouraged to consider the risk of flooding to their home and take preventative measures to protect their property if possible.

Residents can find out how to sign up for flood warnings, prepare their homes for flooding and check roads before they travel via the council’s website at: www.harborough.gov.uk/flooding
