Councillors to review two key reports before Cabinet decisions

Published Monday 10 June 2024

A panel of councillors will have an opportunity to comment and make recommendations on two key reports before they go to Cabinet for decisions in July 2024.

Members of the Services and Communities Overview and Scrutiny Panel will review the Economic Development Strategy 2024-31 and a Review of Open Space Policy at a meeting of the panel on Thursday 13 June 2024.

The Economic Development Strategy focusses on the district’s economic challenges and opportunities and sets out how the council and its partners will address these. The strategy will run alongside the remaining period of the Harborough Local Plan (2011-31) to better align spatial and economic strategies.

The strategy was open for a six-week public consultation, which closed on 10 June 2024, and feedback received will now be considered for the final version.

Councillors will also discuss a report on a review of the council’s Open Space Policy following concerns raised by some residents and councillors about the effectiveness and value for money of management of new open spaces across the district, including those on new housing developments. The panel will consider an alternative approach and make recommendations to be included in a future report to Cabinet

The reports can be viewed on the council’s website at: https://cmis.harborough.gov.uk/cmis5/Meetings.aspx
