Council named in top 10 for crisis business support
Published Tuesday 28 April 2020Harborough District Council has been named as one of the ten best performing local authorities in England for getting urgent financial support to businesses hit by the coronavirus pandemic.
Alongside other local authorities across Leicestershire; Harborough District Council is working tirelessly to issue grants as quickly and efficiently as possible.
The Council has been contacting businesses throughout the district which may be eligible for a business grant to help them at this time of crisis. So far, more than 1,270 businesses in the Harborough district have received a share of nearly £16.6m in emergency support – 87% of the total value of available grants.
The Government’s Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) has been publishing a league table of the performance of all local authorities in distributing grants and this week Harborough District Council was listed as the eighth best nationally out of 314 councils.
Cllr Phil King, Leader of Harborough District Council, said: “We have a team of people working very hard to contact all the businesses in the district. Whilst it is pleasing that our efforts have been recognised nationally; the important thing is that we continue to give local businesses as much support as we can at this very challenging time, and over the months ahead.”
If any businesses have not been contacted by the Council, please wait to be contacted. The Council will endeavour to be in touch as quickly as possible.
