Sporting history events for those with dementia

Published Friday 13 September 2019

Remembering sporting highlights and memorable moments from the past is the aim of two events for people with dementia.

‘Then, Now, & Forever’, will take place on two occasions at Harborough Town Football Club in Market Harborough, and will feature exciting sporting memory sessions for people with dementia – and their carers.

Guests are encouraged to bring their own sports memorabilia and chat to other like-minded people about their sporting memories in a relaxed and friendly environment with a range of sports memorabilia on show.

The two events are free and being organised by Leicester City in the Community – the charitable arm of Leicester City Football Club – in partnership with Harborough Town Football Club, Harborough District Council and Voluntary Action South Leicestershire (VASL).

Cllr Amanda Nunn (pictured), Harborough District Council’s health and wellbeing lead, said “It’s so important that together we support District residents who are living with dementia and their carers. Engaging in social activities and keeping in touch with people is great for improving confidence and encourages positive mental wellbeing.”

The ‘Then, Now, & Forever’ events take place on:

  • Thursday 26 September 2019 from 10am-11.30am
  • Tuesday 1 October 2019 from 1.30pm - 3pm

The events take place at Harborough Town Football Club, Northampton Road, Market Harborough, LE16 9HF. Free light refreshments will be provided and free parking is available on site. The event is located in a fully accessible building which is wheelchair friendly and without any steps.Amanda nunn
