Bigger and better sandpit to provide fun all year long
Published Monday 15 July 2019Children can enjoy the fun of the ‘beach’, all year round, with the introduction of a newly extended and enhanced sandpit in Welland Park.
Harborough District Council officially opened the sandpit in Welland Park in Market Harborough on Saturday (13 July 2019) in time for the school summer holiday.
The sandpit will replace the Harborough by the Sea event and provide a large, permanent sand pit for families to enjoy all year long. New benches, close to the sandpit area, are also due to be added to provide additional seating to provide a spot for picnics.
The Council said the new sandpit will be an opportunity for families to make better use of the improved facilities all year long rather than for just a few days at Harborough by the Sea.
Councillor Stephen Bilbie, Harborough District Council’s vice chairman (pictured with his consort June), who cut the ribbon to officially open the sandpit, said: “I was very pleased to officially open the sandpit on the day. We had a number of families come down and enjoy the extended and enhanced space. It’s perfect timing for the start of the school holidays and it is great that it can be used all year round.”
