Lights fantastic for festive season
Published Monday 12 November 2018The town centre in Market Harborough will be lit up for the festive season to celebrate Christmas and encourage people to visit local shops.
Exciting new images have been published showing how the new Christmas lights displays might look in the town centre and on The Symington Building in Adam and Eve Street.
Harborough District Council is providing the new lights for the town which, this year, will see the two large trees in The Square lit up with special festive displays – featuring fairy lights and large spheres.
Market Harborough Building Society is once again kindly providing the main Christmas Tree for The Square which will be decorated with a striking lights display.
The Christmas Tree lights will be officially switched on in The Square on Friday 23 November 2018 at 5pm.
Councillor Neil Bannister said: “Christmas is a wonderful time to celebrate all that is good about our local towns and businesses and we hope, by lighting up the town centre and The Symington Building with new festive lights, it will encourage people to shop in the town. We are also very grateful to Market Harborough Building Society for providing the town’s main Christmas tree which will take pride of place in The Square.”
This year’s festive lighting scheme will not extend to Church Street due to the existing electrical and physical infrastructure no longer complying with current regulations – as well as challenges relating to the installation of new brackets, eyebolts and new power supplies to accommodate the cross-street festive lighting.
Cllr Bannister added: “We recognise the importance of the town’s festive lighting and although it is with regret we are unable to continue to decorate Church Street we have focused resources on making displays in the town Square and The Symington Building really special this year and we will continue to work with local businesses to build on our festive celebrations in years to come.”
Harborough District Council in conjunction with Zoom Events, is also bringing a Festive Fayre, offering Christmas crafts and gifts, as well delicious food and drink, to The Square in Market Harborough from Friday 30 November 2018 through to Sunday 2 December 2018.
There will also be other events in the town, and across the district, in the run up to Christmas.
