Crowds flock to popular sandpits event
Published Monday 30 July 2018This year’s sandpits event in Market Harborough proved extremely popular with hundreds of people flocking to its new location over the weekend.
The annual event Harborough By The Sea took place at a bigger and more child-friendly location at Welland Park close to the popular play area.
Families were treated to sandcastle making in the temporary sandpits and crafts, plus seated volleyball and football sessions put on by Harborough Town FC.
The Council’s Chairman Lesley Bowles (pictured) also attended the event to lend her support.
Unfortunately the wet weather meant the event was unable to run on the Sunday but organisers say they are already looking forward to hosting the event next summer.
Councillor Neil Bannister, Leader of Harborough District Council, said: “We’d like to thank everyone who attended Harborough By The Sea as well as the sponsors and those who helped organise it. We had some excellent feedback and the new location was very well received. Unfortunately we had to cancel on Sunday, due to the very wet weather, but on Friday and Saturday, everyone that attended had a lovely time.”
The council thanked volunteers from HCYC (Harborough District Children’s and Young People’s Charity) who staffed the event and ran activities, Starfish Puppets which provided a puppet show, Fab Events for the kite making, Harborough Town Football Club, the Active Together Team which ran the seated volleyball sessions, and the council’s environmental contractor FCC Environment which sponsored the sandpits.
