Electric car charge-up points welcomed – and more on way!
Published Wednesday 4 July 2018Charging points for electric cars have been welcomed at a business centre in the Harborough district – and more are set to follow.
The four electric car charging points have been introduced in the car park of the Harborough Innovation Centre owned by Harborough District Council.
Following a public consultation on its car parking strategy last year, Harborough District Council is looking to introduce more electric vehicle charging points in council-owned car parks in Lutterworth, Broughton Astley and Market Harborough.
Cllr Jonathan Bateman, the council’s portfolio holder for Environment and Regulatory Services, said: “We are introducing electric charging points following requests from the public. Whilst electric vehicles are a relatively new concept they are becoming increasingly popular as a greener way to travel and it’s important we are ahead of the game and respond to this by installing them in our own car parks.”
Liza Menzies, manager of Oxford Innovation which runs the Harborough Innovation Centre on behalf of the council, said: “We are so pleased to be the first in Market Harborough to have this facility. Two of our customers have even bought electric cars since they’ve been installed and more have plans to purchase one.”
Anyone can pop and use the electric charging points - and also stop off at the Innovation Centre cafe while they wait.
