Frequently Asked Questions about benefits
How we recover housing benefit overpayments from landlords
If your tenant is overpaid housing benefit we will normally reduce their future housing benefit payments to recover the overpayment. Your tenant should then pay you any amounts we deduct for recovery.
If your tenant is no longer entitled to housing benefit we will issue an invoice for repayment of the overpayment. The circumstances of the overpayment will determine whether the invoice is sent to the landlord or the tenant.
If you receive an invoice you should pay it by the date shown, or contact us to make an arrangement.
You can appeal our decision to recover an overpayment from you. The invoice will tell you how to appeal.
