Leicestershire County Council Elections - 1 May 2025

The Leicestershire County Council Elections will be held on Thursday 1st May 2025. Information regarding key dates and events are shown below. 


Candidates and Agents Briefing 

If you are interested in standing as a candidate at these elections will be holding a briefing session for potential candidates and agents on Thursday 6th March at the Council Offices, Symington Building in Market Harborough in the Council Chamber starting at 6 pm. 

This will cover the timetable, nomination process, the election campaign, handling postal votes, do’s and don’ts which we hope will assist you during the election period. We will of course be answering questions throughout the evening.  Please note that nomination packs will be available to collect at the meeting, as well as directly from the Elections Team from 6th March.

Standing as a candidate 

To stand as a candidate you will need to complete nominations papers, these can be downloaded for The Electoral Commissions website or on request from the Elections Team at Harborough District Council.

Registering to vote

To register to vote in this election you must do so by Friday 11th April. You can register online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote. If you need help to register, please contact the Electoral Services Team using the contact details below. 


Applying for a postal vote

If you would like to apply to vote by post in this election you must do so by 5pm on Monday 14th April. You can apply online at www.gov.uk/apply-postal-vote. If you need help to apply, please contact the Electoral Services Team using the contact details below.


Applying for a Proxy vote

If you would like someone to vote on your behalf in this election you can apply for a proxy vote, you must do so by Wednesday 23rd April. You can apply online at www.gov.uk/apply-proxy-vote. If you need help to apply, please contact the Electoral Services Team using the contact details below. 


Voter Identification

All electors at a polling station must present an acceptable form of ID to be able to vote. For more information on voter ID and accepted ID please see The Electoral Commission website - www.electoralcommission.org.uk
