Apprentice Stories
Hayley McHugo - Economic Development
Hayley has just started her apprenticeship journey, after joining the Council's Economic Development team in 2018. Hayley has taken the opportunity to gain her apprenticeship qualification alongside her varied day-to-day work. Let's hear how she is BLAZE-ing her trail as an apprentice:
Benefit
Since been following my apprenticeship I have gained important skills, been motivated to join more training and workshops provided by Harborough District Council as well as external sources.
Learn
It’s so important to keep learning and gain as many skills and as much knowledge as you can, not only because this will help you in your role but also because it’s a huge motivator and encourages you to keep doing (and learning) more!
Aspire
While I am gaining experience through my full time role, I am also gaining a qualification. By building both of these important elements up it means I have the opportunity to progress to the next stage in my career.
Zest
Already being a full time employee of Harborough District Council, I was vey grateful to be given the opportunity to gain a qualification while working. All the work I complete as part of my apprenticeship ties in with my role as Economic Development Assistant, meaning my learning is relevant and applicable to the real life situations I deal with on a day to day basis. I get to learn and earn, it’s a win-win situation!
Energised
Through my apprenticeship I get to look at several different areas of work across not only the district council, but how departments work at county and national levels. When working with my team this gives me a broader insight into what we need to take in to account, what other teams do and therefore what we can do to improve.
